The new Basel office has been fully operational since July 1, 2016, and will serve as the company’s headquarters for its entire Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. The company makes paint and coatings for most of the world’s leading car and truck manufacturers, collision repair shops, and hundreds of industrial applications.

The decision for Basel was made because of its many advantages for multinational companies and their headquarters. Matthias Schönberg, Axalta Vice President and President EMEA, said about this decision: «In order to find the best location for our new European headquarters we looked at many locations. We selected Basel because of its easy access to the region – France and Germany are literally at walking-distance – and the local airport allows for convenient travel across the entire Region.» Schönberg added: “We really liked the local managerial talent pool. Basel’s executives are multilingual and well-versed in the global business arena. In addition, the economic promotion agency BaselArea was very helpful in the decision-making process, answered our questions swiftly, and introduced us well to the Location.”

BaselArea is thrilled about having Axalta as a new member to the local business community. It is a further testimonial that Basel meets the location criteria for internationally active companies like Axalta. Top accessibility and a productive talent pool are the main reasons why Basel makes the short list with companies looking for a headquarters location and quickly becomes their top choice like in Axalta’s case. Basel’s vibrant and international business community includes other U.S. companies such as Fossil, Abbott, Aequor and most recently San Francisco based company Ultragenyx.
