Basel Area supporting three digital health startups

17.01.2022

Basel Area Business & Innovation will be offering intensive support to the three winners of its DayOne Digital Health Accelerator 2022. The successful startups come from Portugal, the UK and Israel. The focus of their activities is on developing innovative solutions for pain management.

The investment and innovation promotion agency Basel Area Business & Innovation has selected the winners of the fourth edition of its DayOne Digital Health Accelerator. According to a press release, a total of 16 of the 128 applications submitted from 43 countries met the criteria for this year’s focus on pain management particularly well. Three of these have now been selected to take part in this three-month acceleration program, which is set to begin in mid-January.

Hope Care from Obidos in Portugal has developed the digital solution HCAlert to remotely monitor sick people. This reduces the cost of hospital stays and emergencies. HCAlert is already available in Portugal, while the product will now also be launched in the German-speaking DACH region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the Benelux countries and Italy.

Based in the Welsh capital city of Cardiff, the British startup Rescape Innovation has developed three medical devices to ease pain in addition to helping with anxiety and stress management. These are intended for use by adults, children and care staff.  The devices work on the basis of virtual reality distraction therapy and are all already available on the UK market.

With its digital health technology, the Israeli startup TrainPain targets chronic pain, with a specific focus on neuropathic and nociplastic pain. It aims to liberate chronic pain sufferers from a life of persistent pain. Market launches are planned in the USA, Europe and Asia.

Excited about the future

The DayOne Accelerator is, according to information in the press release, the largest accelerator platform for startups operating in the field of digital health and medical engineering in Switzerland and Europe. It is divided into three areas: Digital Health 4.0, medtech and Digital Health Nation powered by Innosuisse. “This model represents the future of early-stage venture capital in healthcare and a new, accelerated way to bring innovation to the healthcare industry”, comments DayOne Director Lucas Scherdel in the press release. “We’re excited about the future of the industry and of Switzerland and the Basel Area as a flourishing hub for digital health innovation”, he adds.
