The Basel-based dental provider Straumann has fully acquired Mininavident AG. The startup from Liestal has developed a guidance system for dental implantation procedures.

The Straumann Group has fully acquired Mininavident AG from Liestal in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, as the company has now announced as part of its half-year reporting. Mininavident, which was founded in 2013 as a spin-off from the University of Basel and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), has developed a guidance system to support dentists in fitting implants. In this context, the workflow is digitized – starting with planning the position of the implant in 3D visualization all the way through to actually fitting the implant

Straumann had previously acquired a 39 percent stake in Mininavident back in October 2021, following which it played a part in the further development of the product alongside the startup. In July 2024, the dental services provider then acquired the remaining shares in Mininavident.

Straumann is perfect partner for Mininavident

“With Straumann, we have found the perfect partner to bring our system to world-wide application”, comments Michael Breitenstein, CEO of Mininavident AG, in a press release. “Straumann’s commitment to technology leadership fits very well with our DNA and we look forward to pursuing the market-oriented further development of our dynamic navigation for the benefit of surgeons and patients”, he adds.

Now that a full takeover has been concluded, the Mininavident guidance system is to be marketed and sold under the name Straumann Falcon.
