About the Basel Area

There are more than 700 biopharmaceutical companies in the region, from small companies to giants like Novartis and Roche. It’s an important center if you want to include Europe in your vision of a global company.

John V. OylerCEO BeiGene, Basel

The Basel Area is innovation, it's future. It's growth for the companies and also for the people. To sum it up, it's potential.

Sandra GorgievskaHead HR Headquarters SKAN, Allschwil

The geographical position is a clear advantage. Thanks to the proximity of the French and German-speaking cantons and of France and Germany, we have access to numerous skills. The proximity of the airport enables us to move quickly internationally.

We invigorate the Basel Area

The Basel Area is a unique business hub for future-oriented industries. At Basel Area Business & Innovation we build on the strengths of the region and make them known both nationally and internationally.

We assist companies that want to settle in the cantons of Basel-Landschaft, Basel-Stadt or Jura, enabling new companies from day one to devote their attention to their business and to acquaint themselves with the right contact partners both in local administration and in their sector. The companies grow together with the Basel Area.

In addition, we support innovative entrepreneurs with tailored programmes. We accompany the founding process, introduce them to experts and advisers, prepare for financing rounds and find suitable offices and laboratories. With the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area, we also offer collaborative work environments in three cantons, allowing companies to put down roots in the Basel Area.

We focus on startups and companies from the following sectors: life sciences with biotechnology and digital health, production technologies, medtech, robotics and artificial intelligence.

We promote the strengths of the region – with success. In the last few years, new connections have arisen between companies, and communication between them has gained momentum. This has attracted new players.

A living ecosystem

A healthy ecosystem lives from its diversity. This also goes for the economic region of the Basel Area: existing companies, international firms settling here and startups enrich and pollinate each other – and the entire region.

Companies and startups that settle here create jobs and play their part in making it an attractive jobs market. These companies are developing new products, bringing innovative services to the market and changing whole economic sectors in the process.

In short, they are the economic ecosystem and bring new bloom to economic sectors.
For this reason, we help companies and startups from the region and from all over the world

  • to settle in the Basel Area or found their startups here,
  • to acquaint themselves with partners and funding opportunities,
  • to develop innovative business ideas and
  • to become successful here.

The life sciences cluster of the Basel Area is not only hugely important for Switzerland’s economy, but also occupies a leading position both in Europe and globally.
