"Most of the new cancer drugs that come onto the market require extensive molecular testing. Most patients do not have access to this type of diagnostics because these technologies require large laboratory infrastructure, are slow, have a long turnaround time, and are very expensive."
Rather than accepting these limitations, Ruiz and his team envisioned a different approach. By combining artificial intelligence, computer vision and digital pathology, they set out to make sophisticated molecular diagnostics available through technology that fits into laboratories’ existing workflows.
The goal was simple but ambitious: help more patients access precision diagnostics regardless of where they live.
Turning science into a company

Preparing for commercialization
Moonlight AI recently reached another major milestone by closing a US$3.3 million seed funding round.
The investment will enable the company to complete development of its AI-powered computer vision platform, expand its team across Europe and North Africa, curate larger datasets to strengthen its algorithms and prepare for commercialization.
For Ruiz, however, the company’s success is measured by something much bigger than investment rounds.
"I realized that many patients do not have access to the right technologies. For this reason, we built Moonlight AI. I'm convinced that with our solutions, many patients around the world will have access to this technology. That is what empowers us to continue our journey."
As Moonlight AI prepares to bring its technology to laboratories worldwide, its mission remains unchanged: making advanced molecular diagnostics accessible to more patients and ultimately improving healthcare outcomes.
